What is H.P.T.?
H.P.T. is a coordinated transportation system established to provide transportation for human service agencies, the elderly, the disabled and the general public of Haywood County. The service utilizes vans and small buses equipped with wheelchair lifts to assist persons with specialized transportation needs. (Para transit)

Who can ride H.P.T.'s Shuttle?
Any person requiring non-emergency travel is eligible to ride H.P.T.'s services. This system provides transportation for the general public, elderly and disabled.

What information do I need to provide to request a ride?
You must be prepared to give the office staff the following information: Your name, address, good directions, the date and time of your appointment, your telephone number, special requirements (wheelchair), and if you have an aide. (Aides will be charged a fare.)

When should I be ready for my ride?
You should be ready at least one hour prior to your appointment time; however schedules will vary due to additions or cancellations. Once a driver has reached your location, the driver may wait only three (3) minutes for you to board the van.

When can I ride?
H.P.T. maintains office hours from 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday.

What if I have to cancel my ride?
H.P.T. requests that you please try to keep your commitment. If for some reason you have to cancel, you must notify the H.P.T. office as soon as possible with a minimum of one hour prior to your scheduled ride.

What happens if I fail to cancel my ride?
If an H.P.T. driver arrives to pick you up and you are not there, you are considered a no-show. No-shows are an unnecessary expense and represent a denial of an opportunity for another person to travel. Your transportation services may be in jeopardy after a no-show has occurred

Can H.P.T. refuse service?
Yes, H.P.T. reserves the right to refuse transportation service to any person or persons.

How does inclement weather effect H.P.T.?
Decisions to cancel transportation are made by 6:00 am. If services are canceled or delayed due to inclement weather, schedule changes will be available by calling 452-1447 ext. 120.

How do I request H.P.T. service?
To request a ride call 828.452.1447 ext. 120, Monday through Friday between 6:00 AM and 5:30 PM. Riders are encouraged to request services as far in advance as possible. To schedule a ride for a specific appointment, you must call the day before the ride is needed. We are closed on weekends, except for special arrangements for group trips. To ride on Monday, your request must be made the previous Friday.

How Much does it cost to ride H.P.T.?
In most areas of Haywood County, human service agency clients are provided ridership by the agency. General Public is charged a minimal fare per trip depending on zone. Payments must be made to the driver before each trip is made. H.P.T. accepts the exact amount of cash only. Out of county trips are available to and from Asheville and Sylva.

When is H.P.T. closed?
New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, day after Thanksgiving, Staff Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas.

Does H.P.T. offer demand response transportation?
H.P.T. offers demand response transportation on a limited basis, during the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with a two (2) hour notice. You must call the office two (2) hours before you need to be at your destination and this transportation must be confined to the limits of the Haywood County area and depends on vehicle availability.
